Road Trip Round Up

We are about to head off on a 6-8 month nomading trip and wanted a catch up with family before leaving. We sent out the call and luckily we were able to organise a day that suited everyone, not the easiest thing to do. The date was set and the menu organised all we had to do now was sort out the last minute details. Because we have three of the youngest grandchildren having birthdays in April our daughter-in-law organised for a birthday cake so that we could have a small celebration as part of our day. Our daughter and her two boys came to stay over the night before which was good, they picked up dinner on the way because Robb and I were having a fish stew for dinner and they weren't that interested in joining us. After dinner there was the usual face masks (our daughter is interested in beauty products) and pool competition.

The next day we were up and getting breakfast for the boys before relaxing with our coffees for half an hour and then we started preparing for lunch. We were having a BBQ lunch with salads I had prepared the potato salad the day before and only had the fresh salads to cut up. Once the table was set I turned on the ovens we needed for cooking. We were cooking a couple of lamb racks on the weber outside, the marinated chicken bits were going into the oven and the sausages were being cooked on top of the stove. We had driven down in the morning to purchase the freshly baked bread, we picked up a crusty loaf, a sandwich loaf and a gluten free loaf for our daughter-in-law. Everyone started arriving around 12.00noon with Matt, Lyndal and their three arriving first and then Daniel, Sue and the girls next. Lunch was just about ready so we sat down around the table where we could and then grabbed any other seats that were vacant. Chatter around the table was very pleasant and very funny at times and we all enjoyed our lunch. After lunch we had the birthday cake with all three of the children blowing out the candles together, then we lit one candle for Elijah the youngest of all to blow out so that he didn't feel like he was missing out. After cake we sat around talking for awhile before everyone packed up to leave.
