Return of The Iconic Tarwin Pub - 29 January 2021

The iconic Tarwin Pub has been closed through Covid and was sold during this period. The new owners have completed a mammoth renovation over the past five weeks and it is looking much fresher and welcoming than it has for quite a while now. This was our first opportunity to visit for a meal so we joined a table with family and friends from Alex Scott and Staff in Venus Bay to see what the food is like. They have a new chef and the owners are keen to make this a desirable place for locals and visitors to come for a meal, we had heard the food was good so we were keen to find out ourselves. There was a variety of meals chosen around the table and everybody commented on the quality of their food, Robb and I both had porterhouse steak and we are a bit fussy with our steaks but we were both very pleased with the taste and texture and we usually have medium rare and both of them were cooked how we like it. We had vegetables and chips with the steak, the vegetables were cooked to perfection and the chips were excellent (very hard to find a good chip these days). They are doing two sittings each night at the moment so make sure you book ahead but make sure you do visit for a meal. Drinks are drinks but it was good to see they had glasses rather than plastics and with the wine serving you can choose a small or large. It was a very busy night but all staff managed that well, there were a lot of locals here for dinner and good to see visitors here too even though it is after the main holiday period. I wish the new owners well in this endeavour.
