I can't believe we are on our way home, this last 8 months has gone so quickly but we have loved every minute of it. We are planning to be home next Saturday 13 November but we are not yet too sure of what route we are going to take. Eventually, we decide to drive directly from Adelaide Hills to Millicent, a four and a half hour drive but we intend to spend two nights there so that we can catch up with our friend Annette who we haven't seen since last time we were in South Australia a couple of years ago. We pulled over into a road side stop on the way to have lunch, I made up a salad for us and we sat in the van to eat before moving on. We arrived in Millicent mid afternoon and we called Annette and told her we were here and she called in on the way home from work. We sat around chatting until it was too cold to be outside and then Annette went home and we went inside for dinner. We have organised to catch up the next day. We arranged to meet at Acky's a coffee shop in the main street for coffee at 10.00am where we sat until close to lunch time and then we all returned to the van. Robb and I picked up bread rolls on the way home and I made salad rolls for the three of us for lunch. We spent the afternoon together at the van before Annette returned home to be picked up by Derek at 4.00pm to return to us where we sat around until it was time to go for dinner. We hadn't met Derek before but we spent a nice afternoon getting to know each other before driving to the Indian Restaurant in the main street for dinner. Robb is not a great fan of Indian food but we all enjoyed our meals and spent a fantastic few hours there chatting. We left from there to return to the van and said our goodbyes, we don't get much of a chance to see Annette so it was sad to part now but hopefully we can catch up again in the near future. Annette messaged me the next morning to see if we wanted to call into the school in the morning for another goodbye so we did and then we were back in the car driving towards Beaufort.
Our original plan was to drive to Hamilton for our first night on our drive home but Robb decided he was happy to drive the extra distance to Beaufort and then have two nights in Yea before driving the last stretch to home. This suited me so we stopped in Hamilton for lunch on the way before driving on. We arrived in Beaufort around 3.30pm and drove to the Beaufort Lake Caravan Park where we had stayed before, we knew we could stay hitched up here so that suited us and it is a pretty spot on the Lake. We set up and then I prepared a potato pie for dinner, we don't want to do anything here and we are both a bit tired after our last couple of days so an easy night sounds good to us.
The drive to Yea from Beaufort is just over 3 hours and because we had stayed hitched up at Beaufort we were on the road fairly early and arrived in Yea before 1.00pm. Our GPS took us the back way to Yea so we drove through some of the smaller country towns of Victoria which to us was the scenic drive. We discovered towns we hadn't really spent much time at and some of them are very interesting, we spoke about planning a trip around these towns at some time in the future, there are some very interesting buildings I would like to take a better look at. We have stayed in the Yea caravan park a few times now and it is one of our favourites, it is usually our first and our last stop when we leave for holidays, doing this means we don't need to drag the caravan through the city. Robb doesn't mind driving through the city but you can almost guarantee that when you want to get through the city there is a hold up somewhere or roads are closed off which is ok if you don't have a 22 foot caravan on the back. We will have two nights here and have a bit of a rest, we don't need to do any sightseeing because we have stayed here so many times, we will probably sort out cupboards etc so that it will be easier when we need to unpack the van. We really only need to move clothes, food and electronic devices as we have a second lot of everything that normally just stays packed in the van ready for our next holiday. I managed to take photos of some of the interesting buildings we passed on our trip and a couple of the lovely views we saw. When we were set up and after lunch we visited the local supermarket to pick up a few items we needed to get through the next two days. I made up a vegetable bake for dinner tonight when we returned to the van and now we are just going to relax, we haven't had many days at all when we actually just did nothing.
Well after one day short of nine months we are returning home tomorrow morning so I suppose I am signing off from my blogs for a little while. I love writing and of course taking and editing my photos but I must admit after 9 months of doing this daily and writing close to 200 pages I will appreciate a small break. The things I am looking forward to with going home is catching up with family and friends, Christmas and the preparation for the season, gardening and our usual routines. Thank you to everyone who took the time to read my blogs I really enjoyed the feedback and it kept us connected with everyone, so until next time (I hope not too long) see you soon.
Welcome home xoxox
