We visited friends living in our small town a few weeks ago for a coffee. On the way out we had a walk around their beautiful garden and came across what we can only describe as part of a cactus that had broken off and fallen to the ground, apparently it had been lying there for a couple of weeks and our friends were more than happy for us to take it with us, we are always pleased to find something new to plant and as it was quite a heavy piece of cactus they were more than happy for us to remove it. We were in the process of cleaning up and replanting after returning from our extended holiday and I had the perfect spot for this cactus in a pot where we could control it's growth. The piece had quite a bow in it so I hammered in a stake to hold it's weight upright. We have been busy cleaning and getting prepared for Christmas so had not taken much notice of the plant but yesterday we walked out to check the watering system and noticed it had produced a beautiful flower at the top of the cactus, I also noticed that the plant is straightening up a bit so hoping that it has taken root and may at some time be able to stand up straight without support.
