Nomading - Mildura - 13 - 17 October 2020

We left Swan Hill around 9.45am and drove to McDonalds to pick up a coffee for the trip and then we entered Mildura into our GPS. As is usual with our GPS she takes us along all the back roads until we finally reached the Calder Highway not too far from Ouyen, I am not sure if it is a setting on our GPS but we keep saying we are going to read the book to find out but we never do, one day. We arrived in Mildura about 12.30pm and pulled over to enter the caravan park that we wanted to go to into the GPS, we had just passed a Top Parks that didn't look so bad we thought if we didn't like our original choice we would come back to this. We drove down and around to the Apex River Beach Caravan Park and just on entry there is a sign to say gum trees can drop branches at any time not just when there is a wind, a bit off putting but the park is in a lovely bush setting with the river beach just over the road to the entry to the park, all up a very attractive area to us so I went in to see if we could get a site for 4 nights. We sometimes book for three nights but we both love Mildura so thought we would book four and if we wanted to stay five we would go back later to book the other night. We found our site which we could drive into and then spent half an hour setting up.

I had a few jobs to do in the afternoon so I prepared lunch for us, we usually have bacon and eggs for lunch on our moving day and once this was organised and finished I prepared dinner for that night and vacuumed and washed the floors and cleaned out the toilet. I then wanted to have a shower and wash my hair. While I was doing this Robb contacted out friends in Mildura to organise a time to catch up. We organised to go for coffee the next morning and they would pick us up because Mal had seen our van but Christine hadn't and she wanted to take a look. Moving day is always a bit tiring so we watched Junior Masterchef while eating dinner and then a couple of shows after that and then I went to bed, Robb following soon after. The next morning we were up and tidied the van a bit and sat outside reading until our friends turned up. They were on time and it was good to see them as we hadn't managed to catch up for a couple of years. We soon moved onto get a coffee and they took us to their favourite coffee spot in Mildura, Bobby and Me on the river bank, we looked around for a table under the shade but couldn't find any so we asked if we could move one of the tables and chairs into a shaded area with respect to Covid restrictions and they were happy for us to do this and even helped us with the move. Our coffees soon turned up and Christine didn't feel like coffee so she had a toasted sandwich. There was lots of talk from all of us, we probably spent a good hour and a half there before returning to our park. Mal and Christine left us there and we had lunch before driving down to the city centre to see if we could find a hairdresser to get a couple of appointments as we had been due for our appointments the day before at our normal place but of course we had to cancel these appointments. We managed to get into Le Roc where they took good care of both of us. Robb was happy to lose all the fluff off his head and tidy up his beard and I was very happy to go back to my natural colour and have some of the bulk cut out. By that time it was late in the afternoon but still very warm. I stripped the bed and washed all the bedding and hung it out to dry. It probably took an hour and I was able to make the bed up again, it is lovely to have clean bedding. I prepared tacos for dinner as it was an easy fix and we both enjoy tacos. I still didn't manage to get onto my blog so I am hoping to make time tomorrow afternoon.

We didn't have much planned for the morning so when we were up we drove down to Bobby and Me for a coffee where we had a completely different experience. We asked if we could move a couple of chairs into the shade but my husband received a lecture from a 16 year old girl about Covid restrictions, he explained we had been able to do it yesterday and we were aware of the distancing but she just didn't want to oblige. We chose a bench seat on the pathway because it was at least under shade. They brought our coffees over to us and they were better than the day before. After coffee we went in search of a battery light for underneath the overhead cupboards over the kitchen table and we did manage to find something at Bunnings which we think will be perfect for what we need. We returned to the van and Robb set this up while I prepared dinner for tonight and lunch for now. After lunch we drove out to Psyche Bend Pumps to have a look, we have been there previously but our friend is a volunteer out there and he was on duty today so we thought this was a good opportunity to go out for another look and a catch up. I took a few photos around while Mal was taking a tour around and then when he was finished we sat down for a bit of a chat. After this we returned to the van because I was hoping to catch up with photos, Trip Advisor Reviews, Instagram and my blog, on the way back we took a side trip down River Road to do a bit of 4WDriving and then over to the River Beach to take a few photos. We have been sitting outside now for a few hours and I have been slowly knocking off these jobs but we have had quite a few visitors from other vans around us who have either come from our area in South Gippsland or otherwise just want a chat. We love these catch ups so that is ok but the afternoon is very quickly disappearing. While writing I had a phone call from our granddaughter, Grace, to say she had her leaners, so proud of her and now maybe we can use her for a chauffeur haha. I have prepared a meatloaf for dinner and I want to have a shower this afternoon so I will set up the weber to warm it up and then prepare the vegies to go in later on and then I will have my shower. It is still quite warm and we have the air conditioner going in the van once dinner is on the go we will settle inside to watch TV.

The next day we were to go for lunch to our friends house but first of all we needed a coffee, so back down to the rivers edge for us and we sat at a table reading and just enjoying the atmosphere here. We needed a few supplies, mainly meat and veg and thought we would restock before leaving Mildura so our next stop was Aldi, it didn't take long because we didn't need much. We then returned to the van to do the few packing up things we wanted to do so that we wouldn't have too much to do before we left the following morning. We had a great catch up with our friends and left just before dinner time, I had dinner organised so we arrived home and we put it on to cook and after dinner watched a bit of TV before bedtime.
