Nomading - Lakes Entrance to Mallacoota - 27 September to 30 September 2020

This is the continuation of a holiday that we commenced four nights before the last lot of restrictions were imposed that meant we had to self isolate at home, so instead of continuing on to Mallacoota we packed up the van with our masks on a drove home. We were then isolated at home for six weeks in which time we managed to do a whole heap more gardening and landscaping and we even managed to clean the house, finally we were given permission to travel and stay away overnight. Instead of rethinking the whole holiday we chose to just continue on from where we left off.

Lakes Entrance - Our first stop and we decided just to return to the same caravan park we had stayed at last time. It isn't any thing fancy but the position is quite good. Last time we stayed 4 nights so there wasn't really anything we wanted to do in Lakes so this time we just booked for one night. The weather was quite good so we set up and drove to Aldi for supplies and then sat outside the van until the temperature dropped. Robb hooked up the van to make it quicker to get away in the morning, not that it takes long to do but we weren't going out that night so we thought we may as well. It was getting later and I wanted to have a shower, dinner was prepared so when Robb finished up and came inside we turned the heater and TV on and settled in for the night. We had a bit of a mishap in the morning when leaving, we were parked close to a tree but we thought we would clear it to drive out but it caught and bent our back bumper bar. We will have to find somewhere to repair it in one of the larger towns.

Mallacoota - Our next stop and we weren't sure if we would stay two or three nights, we booked for two and checked that it would be ok to stay another night if we wanted to. We asked for a drive through site which they didn't have but we were given a site that didn't have anyone behind us so we were able to drive through that to ours. Our front door was facing the lake and the view was stunning so we were very happy with this position. After we set up we took a drive around town to get the lay of the land. It isn't a large town but the infrastructure was good with supermarkets, hardware store, pharmacy, hotel, laundramat, bakery, cafe and coffee shops. We worked out where we were going for our morning coffee and then took a trip down to the jetty to have a look around. There is quite a large fish cleaning undercover set up with about 12 pelicans standing around waiting to be fed. The caravan park we are staying in has over 400 sites only about a quarter of them are in use at the moment and they also have boat moorings available for hire, apparently the fishing is really good and fishing families would love coming for a holiday here. The next day we decided to pick up some tourist information and a coffee and then drive to Gypsy Point, a very pretty spot on the lake, to browse through the information to see what there is to do, depending on what there was to see whether we booked another night. There didn't seem to be much else so we chose a couple of places to stop at on our way back, the first one was a WW11 bunker that had been restored and is now a Museum and it was to be open today, unfortunately when we found the bunker it had a sign up to say it was closed. We turned around and drove back to Betka Beach, this is a great family beach and it was quite crowded for this time of year. There is a large safe pool like swimming area and lovely walks around the sandy areas between this and the ocean. There are decent waves once you get to the ocean and there were a few people out surfing, it must have been cold. From here we returned to the van, I had put washing in before we came out so I hung this outside and put another load in before preparing lunch. After lunch I spent a bit of time sorting my photos and writing this blog. We are driving to the hotel shortly to have a couple of beers and then we will come back for dinner. Tomorrow we are going to drive to Paynesville and stay there for a couple of nights.
