We have been so busy socialising and touring the area that this is the first opportunity I have had to write my blog. Unfortunately while I was downloading my photos today I managed to delete the photos I took around Milawa in the morning and Myrtleford in the afternoon so my photo gallery will be a bit light.
We drove directly to Brown Brothers Winery in Milawa for our first stop, we parked and decided to visit the cellar door. We had visited here previously but we had not taken part in a tasting. It is worth a visit to the cellar door just to have a look around and read the history of Brown Brothers in Milawa. We were the only ones in the tasting room at the time so I thought I would try a couple of wines before making a purchase. The lady who helped us was knowledgeable and helpful so we walked out of there with a couple of bottles of reasonably priced dry white wine. I had a quick look around the restaurant and the alfresco area where there were a couple of groups of people enjoying a coffee. It is well set up and there is a great selection of wines, there is something for everyone.
Our next stop was the cheese factory which is just a couple of kilometres outside of Milawa. This is a great place to visit as besides the cheese factory there is a gallery to look through, a winery and a bakery. The bakery is part of the cheese shop and there is a restaurant attached to the complex. We were looking at the extensive range of cheeses in the refrigerated case when we were told they were just about to have a cheese tasting so we thought we would join in. We tasted about 12 cheeses on the board which apart from the cheddar, which is made elsewhere, all the cheeses are hand made. They were all good, so much so that when we went to make our purchases we couldn't make easy decisions so we walked out with 10 cheeses, they won't go to waste.
We then went in search of the Milawa Organic Beef farm gate and the Olive Oil farm over the road. We drove into the beef farm and we were met at the gate by the owner, unfortunately they were out of fresh meat but we were told they would be collecting more that day so we made arrangements to return at 3.30pm to pick some up. We then drove over the road to the Olive farm but that was not open so we thought we would drive home for lunch.
After lunch we went driving around Myrtleford looking at some of the attractions including the big tree, the phoenix tree and the historical kiln all of which I took many great photos that are now lost to all of us. We then drove back to the Beef farm to pick up the porterhouse we decided to purchase. By the time we returned to the park everyone was starting to gather for the afternoon meeting so we packed up outside, cleaned up and grabbed our chairs and drinks and moved over to the meeting area. We had a bigger group today because a few people had turned up for the weekend, we also had a representative from Olympic Caravans arrive with a couple of prizes for a raffle we were holding that night. We weren't lucky enough to win anything but besides the two TVs Dreon brought along to be raffled off one of the members of the group, who owns a caravan park, kindly donated two nights at the park. Once again it was a pleasant night with lots of lively discussion.
