Lake Buffalo Yackandandah and The Old Factory - 15 March 2020

We picked up a coffee in town and took a leisurely drive to Lake Buffalo. We followed our GPS which took us over the bridge, where the dam is, and we then followed the river up and around the hills before reaching the point where we were told we had arrived. Of course as often happens when you blindly let your GPS lead you to a destination we were up a hill in the middle of nowhere and not enough area to turn around so we drove on a bit further so that we could find a safe spot to do a U-turn. We drove back down the hill and over the bridge until we came to a turn off that lead us to a pretty little spot on the lake where there was a boat ramp and picnic areas. We hopped out of the car and walked around a bit taking photos of this lovely spot but there wasn't much else to see there so we headed out for our next destination.

We thought we would take the historic drive leading to Yackandandah not sure how far we would get but as it turned out we drove the 39 kms to Yack, not far I know but we were looking for an easy day. We arrived in Yackandandah and were pleased that we did. This is a very pretty historic town with a main street that is well worth a walk up and down both sides. If you are interested in architecture this is a good stop off, quite a few antique shops and cafes where we enjoyed walking in and out of the shops to see if there were any treasures we were interested in and as it happens Robb found a marble rolling pin with a lot of weight behind it that he purchased. In my younger days I worked in the ANZ bank with a young guy from here who ended up boarding with my family before I was married. We made a few inquiries about his family, sadly without any luck. Back in the car and driving back to Myrtleford because we had a dinner date at night at the Old Factory down the road from the caravan park.

Our booking at the Old Factory was for 6.30 pm with our park neighbours Gail and Mike. After showering and getting dressed we walked over to the meeting area for our normal 4.00 pm catch up around the fire, most of us were going for dinner at the same place so there wasn't any hurry. When it was time we walked over to the Old Factory with Gail and Mike and found a table that suited us and had a drink before ordering dinner. This is an American BBQ restaurant which Robb and I love and both couples decided on a sharing platter of BBQ meats of which there was a choice of chicken wings, ribs, pulled pork and roast beef and a couple of sauces and aioli and then we needed to choose four sides to go with it. We were all very happy with our choices and even though at first glance it looked like much more than we could get through we did pretty well. Gail and Mike had dessert but it was too much for us so when they were finished we sat for a little while letting our meals settle before walking back to camp.
