We have now moved onto Myrtleford and we are visiting here as part of the Olympic Caravan Group meet so booked in well ahead not really caring about the park but just joining in this social event. We have been pleasantly surprised on our arrival. Lisa our hostess is very friendly and accommodating and made booking in very straight forward and gave us one of the better spots available because we arrived early. Lisa walked us to our spot and advised the best way to drive into it. The park is well shaded with lots of trees, there is a large open area that suits our group and there are plenty of bins and bench seating around the park. A perfect stopover for all of us. We have been in this lovely park now for two nights and have met lots of great people with similar interests and picked up lots of information to make caravanning even better. We didn't do much the first day except settle in and meet the others in our group and joined in with drinkies at 4.00pm.
The next day we decided to take a trip in Beechworth which is always a treat. This is an historic gold mining town with lots of places to visit. Always a highlight is the Beechworth Bakery where the food and service is always top notch so of course we called in there to pick up a few tasty treats to take home for lunch. Even though we have visited here often we decided to walk up and down the streets to look in all the interesting shops making a few purchases on the way. We then decided to hop back in the car and look around the town away from the shops and happily we came across Billson's Brewery well away from the main drag. Last time we visited Beechworth the brewery wasn't here so we were pleasantly surprised to come across this little gem. It is well worth a visit with the tasting room, speakeasy, museums and brewery viewing room. We tasted lots of good cordials and the gins on offer and walked away with a great special of a bottle of gin and 10 beers for $99, we thought a bit of a bargain. The guys who looked after us were very friendly and helpful and while we didn't buy the cordials they were really good.
We then drove back to the park to unload our purchases and have lunch. After lunch we sat around the van either catching up with emails and messages or talking to other people in our group and then of course over for drinkies again at 4.00
pm where tonight we had the fires set up, not that we needed then for warmth but they certainly added a bit of ambiance to the setting.
