Not a lot but at least it will be some help to reduce the fires which are still persisting across parts of the country. The smoke is now filtering further across the state and into areas that haven't been directly affected, we can't complain we consider ourselves lucky where we are but everything smells of smoke and anyone with breathing problems would be finding it difficult breathing outside, also we may have some concerns with the quality of our tank water. We can only imagine how bad it is for those in the fire zones and our emergency workers who have to cope with this day to day.
Apart from our emergency and support workers I would like to thank and congratulate our governments for the incredible job they are doing, both Federal and State, because we live in Victoria we tend to concentrate on the fires here but not to forget that every state is currently burning. State governments will be focusing on their own state but the Federal Government has to focus on all. The management involved with organising all the individual groups to help out and on top of this starting the process to set up relief funds, some of which are already going out, would be mammoth. Whenever I hear discussions about what to do with people who start fires and it is suggested they send them out to be on the front line, I wonder whether that would be an appropriate exercise for those currently being so condemning of the governments to maybe give them a stint on the front line, a lot of people think they can do a better job anyway.
As only nature can we are experiencing extreme outlooks in our immediate environment. Last night we had the most beautiful sunset and we were treated with colours in the sky that can't be recreated anywhere else and then this morning we wake up to smoke everywhere, it has cleared a bit as the day has gone on but this morning we couldn't see anything past 3 metres away.
Hopefully we have seen the worst of the fires but I hope we don't slip back into our old complacency as the situation improves because that is generally what happens. There is going to be a lot of rebuilding both physically and emotionally that will need doing, we are obviously going to hear reports of the total damage that are going to be shocking, it is easy to have knee jerk reactions to offering help because that is who we are but I only hope there is a coordinating body to see that the help is directed where it is needed most.
