New Years Eve - 2019

New Years Eve today compared to 30 years ago:

Once upon a time I would have bought a new outfit, I would have started getting ready at 2.00pm with manicure and pedicure, hair and make-up. Friends start arriving at 4.00pm, start pre party drinks and get nibbles out. If we are staying home then food will be served at 7.00pm, if we are going out we would organise transport and leave home at 6.00pm. If it was a disappointing night we would get back home or in bed, much the worse for wear, around 2.00am if it was a good night then don't expect us before 4.00am and we would be completely wrecked but have made lots of good memories, oh that's right we probably couldn't remember a thing after 1.00am.

Today I spent the morning in the garden, my legs are hairy and my nails look like something out of a horror movie. No new outfit because I will be in my pyjamas by 4.00pm. We have bought fresh seafood for dinner, Robb has made up a seafood sauce to serve with the prawns, lobster tails and garlicky squid and scallops which I will prepare just before eating. We have some nice cheeses to have a cheese board with the seafood and I have a nice sparkling wine on chill. We will sit on our deck and watch the fireworks at Inverloch at 9.30pm and then I will probably be in bed by 10.00pm. I am not complaining I am more than happy with this agenda just as I was with the one 30 years ago. Life changes if we are lucky enough to be here for a long time, hopefully we can be happy with each stage.

Happy Safe and Fun New Year to all. My sincere sympathy to everyone who is living through the horrific fires throughout Australia, to firefighters you have my deepest respect and to families of those who have perished, there are no words that are enough.
