I would love to say we only attend this event to give our grandchildren a treat but the truth is this is one of my favourite events of the year. I have only missed attending a handful of years since I was 6 years old and my husband also enjoys this annual event. We have a 3 hour drive to get here so we headed off reasonably early in the morning and arrived around 11.30am. We parked out car in the Flemington Racecourse parking area and walked through to the showgrounds. We had only just entered when Ollie saw the train ride and wanted to go on it so we payed his fare and because it was still fairly early he was the only one on the ride. After that we started walking around the pavilions. There have been many changes to the showgrounds over the years and I quite like the new set up which means most exhibitions are pavilion based. We had a map with us but it was fairly easy to find your way around, our first stop was the Jurassic exhibition which was just below Ollie's train ride. I was really impressed with this exhibition, there were lots of dinosaurs on show and they were all interactive so we spent a bit of time here looking around. From here we called into the Masterchief pavilion where there is a great display of produce from small suppliers which included everything from fudge, balsamic vinegar and cheese, we didn't buy anything this year but did do a few tastings on our way around. From here we sat and watched the dog judging before moving on to the other pavilions including the Woolworths pavilion, the Future pavilion where the boys spent a bit of time playing the games, Ollie was successful here playing an interactive soccer game against another young boy around his age called Marcus and we all had a lot of fun. From here we visited the Animal Nursery and both boys enjoyed feeding the baby animals, by that time everyone was hungry so we went in search of food stopping on the way for the boys to have a ride on the dodge-ems and we still couldn't help looking at other exhibits. Finally we arrived at Eat Street and we were lucky enough to find a table and we claimed this and then I took the boys to choose what they wanted while my husband minded the table. I found a great sushi stall which I knew my husband would love so he went and bought his lunch and then after consultation with the boys I went and bought spaghetti and meatballs for Ollie and Creamy Tortellini for Connor. I had Paella from Melbourne Paella whose produce I had purchased many times so everyone was happy and we all enjoyed our meals. From here we walked over to the showbags to purchase the bags we had chosen from the internet. Ollie bought two Harry Potter bags and a Ryan's World Bag and Connor bought a horror bag, a Warheads bag and a Natural Confectionery bag. Grandpa bought a Daryl Lee and Toblerone bag and I bought the Daryl Lee licorice bag. From here we decided it was time to walk back to the car and drive home. We arrived home at 6.30pm and we were all exhausted but very happy with our day. Ollie has been very happy with his Harry Potter bags and hasn't taken the glasses off or put the wand down since yesterday afternoon, I think he even slept with them last night.
