If I had ever been someone to say 'oh for the good old days', which I haven't, that whole idea would have been slapped out of me today. After five weeks of being without wifi, which means no Netflix, Stan or Prime and having to set up our phones each morning for Internet all of which I have coped with bravely. This morning at 7.22am our power went out, that's fine updates from Ausnet say it will be back on at 1.00pm. I had planned cleaning for today so this now meant sweeping rather than vacuuming and washing sinks and toilets with bottled water, ok I am still coping. My computer has been playing up so this is a good time to run it down to Wonthaggi for repairs, I explain the issues and they say to return at 4.00pm. We drive home for lunch and an update from Ausnet tells us our power won't be up until 5.00pm, still fine. We have lunch and return to Wonthaggi to be told the computer is not ready, so we drive home again. I have two dishwasher draws full of dishes and a pile of dishes on my sink. My daughter-in-law came to drop some rubbish and cut her finger open and we are trying to clean that up with bottled water, which lets face it in the olden days someone would have had to go down to the well to draw contaminated water to do this and she probably would have lost her finger. Believe it or not I am still coping, then we receive a notification from Ausnet to say the power won't be back on till 8.00pm, so here we are sitting with, thankfully, the wood fire giving us heat, a candle for light and a glass of wine, warm but acceptable. My expectations for a comfortable life has adjusted many times over the last few weeks so that now all I want is a hot meal and a warm bed. This must be how cavemen felt.
