I have always loved celebrating my birthday and usually make the celebrations stretch over the week and this year isn't any different. I am most appreciative to add another year to my tally when there are so many people who are not so lucky and I am never flippant about this blessing. We usually celebrate our birthdays at our favourite restaurant, however, it is quite often closed at this time of year while the owner returns to Japan for a couple of months. We will make sure we book in for a birthday celebration when they reopen later this week.
In the meantime we decided to have brunch somewhere we hadn't been to before so I booked at Meeniyan Pantry and Cellar in Meeniyan. We booked in here for brunch the lunch menu doesn't commence until 11.30 but we wanted to have a look at the produce they have here on offer and their range is quite extensive. I have been following the pantry on FB for awhile now and was quite excited to visit. It is lovely venue and the fire in the alfresco area added to the ambiance, the service was excellent and friendly and the prices good. The only criticism I have is the limited menu, there were five items on the lunch menu and 3 platters on offer. The shop is full of fresh produce and prepared meals and with all this wonderful food on offer we would have expected more on the lunch menu. We both chose the minestrone soup which was very tasty with lots of vegetables and the bread it was served with was crusty and tasty but we probably just would have preferred more variety.
So now we are home and I am not doing much while Robb is baking a lemon meringue pie for me for after dinner tonight. This is one of my favourite dishes and I have already been lucky enough to dip my finger into the lemon custard and it is pretty damn tasty, dinner is looking good.
