Tomorrow we start our journey home so we had another very relaxed day today. We packed up all the items we don't need today and then went to the shops to pick up food goods we are short on before returning to the van for lunch. We haven't done much at all after that so I think I will reflect on our overall holiday for this post. As always the time goes far too quickly and we have had a fantastic time, we are still talking to each other so that is the main thing. We have traveled from the South Coast of Victoria to the south coast of South Australia where we have driven down and up the Fleurieu Peninsula, down and up the Yorke Peninsula and down and up the Eyre Peninsula. We have been through the Southern Flinders Ranges and dipped out foot onto the Nullabor. We have stayed in some interesting towns and villages and in each one Robb has tried to book a spot on a fishing charter without any luck at all, we have heard so many excuses why the charters aren't going out - fish numbers are down, the tides aren't right, the weather isn't going to be good, I have just come back from a small operation, my mother is in hospital and I am worried about her, I need at least four people to go out I will contact you if I have more inquiries - all valid excuses but the outcome is that Robb didn't get to have a fish in this fantastic seafood area. That's life, it is winter and there are minuses and pluses with travelling at this time just as there is in travelling in summer peak time.
We have stayed in some excellent caravan parks, called into quite a number of Visitor Information Centres who have for the most part been very helpful, enjoyed dealing with local businesses, had a couple of good coffees (Victoria still holds the record for best coffee), we have visited some amazing sites that have just blown us away and visited others that are not so dramatic but still beautiful and many museums, I think we are both museumed out now, however, the highlight of our trip was catching up with friends we don't see that often. So all up a really good holiday.
We have allowed a week to drive home, so far we have covered about 4,500kms and have another 1600+ to get home, we have worked out how far to travel each day because we are very naughty sometimes and when we get fairly close to home we often decide just to keep driving until we get there, so each time we try not to do this. There are still things to see and do on the way and anyone who knows me will understand that I don't really want to miss any opportunity. We have a booking on the Pichi Richi train ride out from Quorn and if we are near the coast at any time we will still try to get Robb on a fishing charter. We are both sorry our trip is coming to an end but as we get closer to home we will probably be keen to get there and resume our normal life. We have had calls from our children and grandchildren and we are looking forward to catching up with them and our friends. I am going to choose a photo from each stop to post, hopefully I can find something I haven't previously posted.
