We were traveling from Coffin Bay to Streaky Bay and we called in here for our traveler coffee when moving on. Not quite sure why they don't have decent sized take away cups in this part of the world but it is what it is. The coffee was good and we purchased oysters while we were there too. Kylie who served us shucked them at the time so when we ate them they were very fresh and my husband enjoyed them. When I called in to the store it was very busy with lots of locals coming and going, the atmosphere was very pleasant with everyone chatting and I passed the time waiting for my oysters to be shucked most enjoyably.
We had planned a few stops on the way and found there was much more to look at than what we originally thought. We had missed seeing the structure of the oyster farm at Coffin Bay the previous day so we were happy to see this when we were leaving. We called into Elliston, which hadn't been in my original plans and the lady at the Visitor Information centre marked out a loop for us to follow with some great views. This turned out to be one of the highlights of our trip for me, we finally saw lots of the dramatic coastline that the Eyre Peninsula is famous for. We stopped off at many points including the Talia Caves and we walked down to the Woolshed Cave which was both spectacular and scary but the whole area was magnificent. From here we drove to Venus Bay just because we wanted to say we had been here considering we live near Venus Bay in Victoria.
We then moved onto Port Kenny for lunch, we had been so caught up with looking at all the great attractions in the area that we arrived just after lunch had finished at the hotel. I went in to check anyway and the publican kindly offered to cook us a meal. We were very appreciative that they were willing to do this for us so we ordered our lunch. We both had flake and chips and this came with a lovely salad platter and bread rolls. We didn't get to the rolls we had plenty with the meal and salad and left a little behind. We had a lovely chat to the publican and his wife and all up this was an excellent experience. The prices were good too.
Our next stop was to be Murphy's Haystacks and I had to talk Robb into stopping for this attraction but we both agreed it was well worth the stop. There is an entry fee of $2 per person and there is an honesty box for the payment. These rocks are on a private property so I thought the least we could do was to respect the opportunity to visit this attraction. The rocks themselves are very impressive and I am so glad we were able to make this stop.
We had decided just to have one night in Streaky Bay because we had a look around on our way and wanted to save our days to have a long stay in Ceduna. We loved this park and did wonder whether we should rethink our plans but we had seen everything we needed to so decided still to move on. Check in was good, the lady who served us was very friendly, the site was good and roomy, amenities were good and there were activities for children. We are G'Day members so the rates were excellent, we set up and didn't do much after that as we were both a bit tired but it was nice to have a beautiful sunset that evening that we both enjoyed.
