We had a very exciting start to our day while going through our normal pack up procedure we noticed our aerial had snapped off at the base, we had very strong winds last night and we were near trees so we are thinking they may have knocked it down. Anyway Robb took it down from the roof of the van and we stored it inside and looked up caravan repair places in Port Lincoln. One was closed but there was one open so we put this address in the GPS.
We didn't have anywhere in Whyalla to call in for a coffee so we had to wait until we arrived in Cowell 90kms away, that was ok I wanted to have a look around there anyway so we put Tumby Bay in the GPS and took off. We found a coffee stop in Cowell and there was plenty of parking out the front so we called in here for our morning wake up. It was good coffee, we haven't had many good ones while being away so we appreciate when we do. Back in the car driving towards Tumby Bay where we pulled in once again to have a quick look around. It was very quiet there today but the weather was not good I would imagine in summertime it would be very busy here. We drove around for awhile and took a few photos, had a quick stop at the loos and then drove out to the silo murals on the outskirts of town. These murals are quite well known and I have seen many photos of them but it was good to see them for real. We then hopped back in the car and headed for Port Lincoln.
We put in the address for the caravan repair place so that if we couldn't get anything done to the aerial today we could book it in for Monday or Tuesday. We drove straight there and because the gentleman wasn't on site we phoned him as instructed and he reluctantly came downstairs to see us. He was a miserable little man and explained that he wouldn't repair the aerial but would replace it, because we thought it could be repaired he gave us the name of an engineer and welder in town so we called him and he gave us his address and we drove around there. He was such a nice man a very pleasant change after the last one and he listened to Robb and worked with him to find a solution. So after nearly an hour our aerial was repaired and it only cost us $50 as opposed to the $280 the other person wanted to charge us. On our way again and there are two caravan parks to choose from and we had already chosen the caravan park closer to town so we drove straight to it to see if we could get a site for the next three nights.
This park has everything we look for. We have great views, a huge drive through site, good service and the rates are reasonable. The position is good on the outskirts of Port Lincoln and thankfully because we pulled in here while there was a storm happening we had a concrete site. We have free internet which we expect now, it is not brilliant but can serve for simple requirements. Once we had a break in the rain we started setting up, it never takes long but when you are fighting the rain it seems like a long time. Once we were set up we drove to the Visitor Information Centre to see if Robb could book in for a fishing charter, we have been trying to get one for 4 weeks now without any luck and today wasn't any different, nobody was going out today and probably not tomorrow because of the weather. We left our number with them in case this situation changed but we are not holding out much hope but they had a few suggestions for us if he doesn't get on a charter here for towns we are going through later on. It was close to closing time when we called in but we were welcomed and both staff went out of their way to help with our inquiries and making suggestions for our stay. We came away with sufficient information to plan our next day, we always make these centres our first stop and usually find the staff helpful but this was one of our better ones.
We returned to the van and completed the few items we skipped before, we had not had lunch so decided just to have biccies and cheese. I needed to do some washing but we didn't want to put the awning up until the weather settled a bit so we now have washing stretched all through the inside of the van. It shouldn't take long to dry but there is such a lot of it because I have been waiting until we were staying somewhere long enough to do it. It's all ok but I am hoping when we get up through the night to go to the toilet we don't hang ourselves.
