Port Broughton Clements Gap Crystal Brook Snowtown and Bute

We had an easy day today because our idea was to come back early afternoon and get ready to take off fairly early tomorrow. Our first stop was to be Crystal Brook but on the way I spotted a small church that the manager at the park had recommended we have a look at. The church is out in the middle of nowhere and it is still being used today, we found it so stopped and called in to take a look. Then we were back on our way to Crystal Brook which we found without much effort. This is a very pretty little town and we noticed lots of council workers doing gardening and other types of maintenance to beautify this area. It is quite obviously a tourist town and has a few nice looking coffee shops and cafes.

Our next stop was Snowtown and I must admit a lot of our interest was based around the murders between 1992 and 1999. The bodies were found in barrels in the bank vault in Snowtown which is now a sad looking building that seems to carry a heavy burden. The town is also a little sad, it was believed originally that the town may have prospered from its notoriety but that has not been the case. There were a couple points of interest including the painted water tower and big blade and a beautiful old church off the main road.

Then we headed back to Port Broughton passing through Bute on the way. Bute is a lovely little town, we didn't stop but took a few photos on the way through.

Then we arrived back in Port Broughton for lunch, we had already decided to call into the bakery for lunch and then if we wanted to after lunch we would have a quick fish off the jetty. The bakery we stopped at was Baker Bear's and we had called in here for coffee the last two mornings and we had heard their pies were good so we planned on going back for lunch today. Robb chose a cottage pie and a sausage roll and I chose a chicken pie. Robb thought the sausage roll had been reheated so not too pleased about that but his cottage pie was good. I had the special chicken pie and I really enjoyed this and it was hot which I don't normally find with bakeries. The prices were what you would expect and the service was excellent as we had found on previous occasions. After lunch we decided not to have a fish but we looked around the jetty area and then decided to return to our van and pack up ready to leave tomorrow. We have had a good stay in this area and the Yorke Peninsula and tomorrow we move onto the Eyre Peninsula which was our original destination.
