We had traveled from the Fleurieu Peninsula to the Yorke Peninsula and had chosen Ardrossan as our first stop. We went directly to Highview Holiday Village to book in. It is a very neat park and each powered site has an ensuite. There are a lot of permanent residences here that are all maintained really well. There aren't any drive through sites and the sites are all triangular which worried us a bit as our van is quite big but fortunately the owner was happy to come down and direct us into our spot. The service was great, pricing fair and while the sites aren't huge we managed quite well. The park is within easy distance to town, the en suites while being a bit older are clean and well presented. All up a good experience.
We started our next day looking around this beautiful area with a coffee at the bakery. We had checked out the area the night before looking for somewhere we may be able to have coffee the next day so we drove directly here. We had decided to sit and have our coffee and a bit of a read and we were pleased to see that they had a lovely large area for us to do this. We ordered our coffee and went to find a seat, we found a lovely very old lounge suite in the corner of the room that was very comfortable. We ordered and paid for our coffees and Robb also wanted a buttered coffee scroll which they were happy to do. The prices were good, the place smelled amazing and the coffee and coffee scroll were good when we received them. When we were there it was morning tea time and the shop was very busy with tradies calling in for a snack. I think this might be a popular spot for locals.
We wanted to get some information about the local area so after coffee we called in to the Visitor Information Centre attached to the Ardrossan Museum to seek advice. The staff were lovely and went out of their way to help with our various inquiries. We didn't go through the museum, however, we could see it through the windows and it looked interesting. Our problem is that we travel such a lot I don't really think there is much for us to see at another museum. We did receive lots of information about areas to visit while here and we took their advice. Our first stop was the public viewing spot about 4 kms out of town where we could view the whole area including the dolomite mine that we think may have provided the hill we were standing on. From here we drove down to the jetty, we were thinking about having a fish but it was quite cold so not sure that was a good option today. We did walk down to the end of the jetty though and there was one lone fisher person who didn't seem to be having much luck. From here we drove down to Tiddy Widdy Beach because how could you not. Anyway we visited here but I wouldn't recommend you made the effort if you are here.
We drove home for lunch and then decided to take a trip to Arthurton for a look around. There wasn't a terrible lot to see here but we visited the few churches and the cemetery behind one and there was a very interesting sculpture outside one of the churches, we drove the streets but apart from the pub which I took a photo of we were left a bit bereft of interesting sites. On the way home to Ardrasson we found this fascinating fence where for some reason people have decided to hang heaps of teddy bears and soft toys, you can't pass without taking photos and I can understand the need to get rid of all the soft toys in your home and maybe this is a good talking point.
