Hahndorf and Alexandrina Cheese

We had decided to drive to Hahndorf today but needed a coffee before heading off and I really wanted to sit and have a read with my coffee as we had plenty of time to do that. We called into Cafe Bavaria as we could find parking out the front and there were a lot of people in the cafe so we thought that was a good sign. We ordered our usual and Robb chose a piece of carrot cake. The coffee was good and I tried the carrot cake because it came with two forks and it was really good and Robb ate the rest of it and said he enjoyed it. We sat inside the cafe and it was clean and pleasant, there was seating outside but it was just a bit cold for me today. Service was efficient and the prices good.

After coffee we drove onto Hahndorf for a look around. it had been more than 30 years last time we were here, in the days that the road from Melbourne to Adelaide ran straight through this village, now you look at the width of the roads and wonder how this was managed. We walked up the length of the street and then down the other side. It is a beautiful little village with many interesting shops, cafes and hotels. We called into many of the outlets to have a look at their wares and we were particularly interested in the Wolf Blass outlet and the Hahndorf Inn. Definitely worth a visit if you are in the area. Just as a side note the chocolate company here FruChocs are the ones who own the rights to Polly Waffles and they are still going through the process of producing this item. They also have bought the rights to Violet Crumble which they now produce and are on offer in their outlets, I can't wait for Polly Waffles to come back on the market. We left here and drove back to Victor Harbour intending to stop at Alexandrina Cheese on the way.

We visited Alexandrina Cheese because it had been recommended by the Visitor Information Centre in Victor Harbour and we do love our cheese. We sampled all the cheeses and chose a couple to buy and take home with us. There was a staff member explaining all the cheese to us and she was very helpful with any questions we had a lovely experience there. We came home with an Edam and Cheddar which we particularly enjoyed. We believe the milk shakes are a bit special here but we didn't try them. From here we drove back to the van for lunch.

After lunch we chose to drive around the coastline looking for fishing spots. We initially drove down to the Granite Island causeway and I spoke to a young guy going out to fish to ask about the better spots, he was very helpful and now we have a couple of spots to try. We then drove around to Rosetta Wharf to see what the fishing was like there. We found a few people out there fishing which suggested to us that it was a good spot. On the way back to our van we called into the park office and booked another three nights, there is so much to see here we aren't in any hurry to leave.
