We only had today to have a look around Geelong and then tomorrow we will be moving on. We had chosen to look around the foreshore and then the Woolshed Museum. We started our tour at the pier and we drove onto the road leading to the pier and there was plenty of parking here both inside the pier entrance and just outside. We decided to park at the entry and walk down to the end of the pier. It was a cool day but we were quite protected by the tunnel running along one side of the pier where we found a large group of fisherman within a short distance of each other with numerous rods hanging over into the water. We thought they probably all knew each other because it seemed like quite a social occasion. We walked down to the end of the pier where we called into the cafe for our morning coffee and read. This was just a coffee stop but a very pleasant one. There didn't seem to be many people around so we weren't sure if we were entering at the correct place but the moment we walked through we were welcomed by the staff and told to find a table that suited us. We ordered our coffee which was very good and then sat and enjoyed the view over the water. After coffee we went to have a look at the ancient carousel, it wasn't open but we walked around the building it is housed in to have a look. It is a beautiful carousel in great condition and it looks like you can rent the area for children's parties and special events.

Next we drove down to Eastern Beach, I loved visiting here because I can remember when I was a child coming here to swim a couple of times each summer. It has been developed over the years and is now beautifully set out, still with the swimming pools but also all the beautiful parkland around the beach area and of course all the bollards that have added their own interest for visitors. There is a great walking path around the area and today there were quite a few people having a run or walk around or exercising their dogs, it is a very pleasant area.

Our next stop was the National Wool Museum where we had a fantastic experience enjoying the museum but also because of the fantastic attention we received from the staff. On purchasing our entry tickets we were handed all sorts of brochures that may have been on interest to us and then when we walked through the doors we were greeted by Zach who explained the different sections of the museum We followed the recommended path and found the museum well set out and very interesting. Along the way we had one of the other volunteers, Pam, catch our attention explaining different aspects of both the building and the wool processes. Pam had lots of information to give us and we spent a bit of time with her and just as an extra treat she took us into areas we wouldn't normally see, we felt very special having a really good look around this historic building and the added benefit of her knowledge of the years when she worked there. Such a great visit.

We drove back to the van and had lunch and then because we still have time we decided to drive to Point Lonsdale to have a look around. We arrived in Point Lonsdale and saw the lighthouse in the distance, we decided to go and see if it was open unfortunately it wasn't but we walked around the perimeter and took in the views. It was a very blustery day so we couldn't stay up there for long but there are magnificent views over the coastline and we would have liked to do a tour but these were held on Sundays and we will have moved on by then.
