Geelong Botanic Gardens

We left home around 9.45 for this next adventure, we had decided to stay in Geelong for two nights because we hadn't been here for awhile and decided to have a bit of a look around. We made good time after our first few hiccups to get moving and finally found our way to the Geelong showgrounds which we had chosen to stay at for the time we were here. We had read the reviews before leaving and while they were quite mixed we decided to give it a go, mainly because it seemed like a good value area. The girls in Administration were very helpful and after being given a map and having been shown the amenities areas we went in search of a good spot, the one we chose was over the road to the amenities so we set up and then I made lunch for us and after that we drove to the Visitor Information Centre which was based in the Woolshed Museum. We only had a day and a half in Geelong and hadn't been here for a long time so wanted to see as much as we could and we explained this to the very helpful person at the centre and so one of the places he suggested was the Botanic Gardens so we called in here on our way home. It is a beautiful area and is the fourth oldest botanic garden in Australia. There is a great variety of plants but what caught our attention were the beautiful very tall trees most of which were very old and some needing support to keep them upright. The gardens also serve as a training area for our future gardeners. It was an overcast day when we visited at the start of winter but we could still see the last of the Autumn leaves on some of the trees and there was something very comforting about the calm solitude of the lawns and gardens.
