We picked up information from the tourist centre which included a Silo Art Trail which intrigued us because it was something we hadn't previously tried from our stays in Cobram. We stopped for a coffee at McDonald's and then we were on our way to our first stop which was Tungamah. We pulled in at the silos and there were another two couples travelling together on the trail and we started a conversation with them, one couple lived in Yarrawonga and usually take their visitors on this trail and their friends were from Hallam and they were showing them around. I think this was one of the earlier silo paintings so as life goes they improve along the way. Not to say that you can't help to be impressed by the work that has gone into this piece but just that as time has gone on the other works at St. James, Devenish and Goorambat are so much better than this effort. I would certainly recommend this silo was included in your trail though. We then moved onto St. James and found the silos there which were of particular interest to Robb because they focused on George Coles who grew up in this area and of course Robb worked for Coles for 20 years so the history of George Coles was interesting to him. Next onto Devenish where we saw silo art dedicated to our ANZAC heroes, this is really impressive work and there has been monuments set up around this work to people from the area who have lost their lives through the wars and there are also woolen poppies wound around the fences. Our last stop is Goorambat where we find artwork dedicated to the local animals in our environment, the work here is really impressive and the artist who painted the silos also painted a depiction of someone who embodied the community of Goorambat on the back wall of one of the churches in town. We had seen many fine works in our travels but both of us were really impressed with this painting.
