We had visited Tocumwal last year while staying in a nearby town and went in search of the blowhole but never found it. We decided to give it another go this year and now we have seen it we will not need to return. The directions are really bad and the signage worse it was only with extreme good luck that we managed to find it and then when we did we were particularly underwhelmed. The blowhole has significance to our Indigenous population so I think if this natural phenomenon is listed on the attractions around Tocumwal then decisions need to be made about whether to develop the site or not.
Our next stop was The Drop hydro electric scheme, we were interested in visiting here because electricity production is such important issue today and any opportunity to see how it is produced is worthwhile. This scheme is located outside of Tocumwal on the way to Berrigan and is on the Mulwala canal. Apparently it has a high capacity for producing electricity but we are still uncertain as to how this ties in with our overall green energy policy. Lovely to see all this water flowing in these very arid times though.
From here we drove to the Historic Aerodrome, there wasn't much left here, a couple of hangars and some signage at the entry but at least it was well marked and and we had a feeling for the history of the site.
We then drove to the bridge which is really quite magnificent, this is an historic site worthy of a visit. We walked a little way along the bridge and took a few photos. There is a train line through the bridge that still looks like it is running but then there are signs everywhere about the weight limit for the bridge so that was a bit confusing.
Our next stop was the old flour mills, not much to say about these except that they are here.
We have visited the historic station a few times now but have never found the museum open. I gather like a lot of small towns it is run by volunteers and it is not easy to find people just to spend their time at the museum waiting for people to arrive. Anyway we like visiting old stations and this is quite a nice one so we had a bit of a wander around before moving on to our next attraction.
We had been staying in a caravan park when we came across this lovely river park. We were going to stay another couple of nights and move to this park but then because we had seen everything we needed to in Tocumwal we decided to move on. Next time we come to Tocumwal though we will camp here. It is a lovely park right on the river with access to water. We have solar power so the electricity is not that important to us and the rates here are really good. On top of that you are right on the river with a lovely beach area to play in.
