Jerilderie and The Ned Kelly Trail

We visited Jerilderie because we hadn't been there before even though we had lived in Deniliquin at one time. When we arrived we went in search of a coffee shop and there wasn't much open but we did come across a very seedy looking cafe so thought we would give it a try but unfortunately it did live up to our expectations I think this is the first time I have ever thrown a coffee out but nevertheless we decided to explore Jerilderie to see what we could find. We drove to the lake and had a walk around and then over to the Giant Windmill, which is indeed giant and the lake is quite big and is surrounded by parkland including a children's play area. Then we walked on a bit further and came across a trail dedicated to Ned Kelly. I had never heard of this connection before so I was quite surprised to come across this trail, apparently Jerilderie is the only town in NSW on the Ned Kelly trail. We walked the section from the lake to the shops past the park reading the information boards out the front of the buildings. I didn't see that any of the buildings were open to go into but it was a Sunday so maybe everything is closed or we may have been too early. The buildings that are standing are all in good condition and it is not a long trail I even noticed an older couple doing the trail in their car, stopping in front of the boards and reading them from the road. I am sure there would be Ned Kelly enthusiasts who would love to visit here, to me it was worthwhile just to read the information on the boards that I had no idea about. The trail is in a lovely setting with the lake and the park and the buildings and grounds are all

w

ell maintained, well worth a visit.
