It had been years since our last visit to this lovely winery, we used to come often and take the boat trip between here and Tahbilk. Mitchelton was always an impressive looking set up but there has been a few buildings added or renovated and there is a new hotel which is very inviting, we might have to book a stay here. There is also a new deck out to the river and the lawns have been manicured so that the outlook to the Goulburn River is quite pretty. The restaurant looks like it has had a makeover too I remember when we were there last time it was looking a bit shabby but certainly not anymore. I had great memories of Preece wines from here and apparently the winemaker Preece is no longer there and Mitchelton have bought the label, they are not making the wines I loved so I tried something different in a couple of tastings. I came away with a Chardonnay that I quite liked, I don't normally drink Chardonnay but this was quite a pleasant drop. We didn't stop here for lunch because we had other plans but you could spend a few hours here if you included lunch and then a tasting in the cellar door where there are lots of interesting bottled wines to look at.
