Dubai - Half Day Tour

When we booked this tour we thought it was just to visit the spice souk and gold souk but it was much more than that. It was called a half day tour so I was thinking maybe four hours but it would have been at least 6 hours, our tour guide indulged us at all times and did not hurry us along except when we had to meet the Dhow to go to the souks. Our guide was also a valuable source of information and a really nice man, he made our time the best we could expect. We started with a visit to Jumeria Beach and we hopped out of the bus to walk along the sand and I dipped my feet in the water that I swear must be at least 28 degrees and the sand is as white as white. After the beach we traveled through Dubai looking at all the main areas and buildings and our guide gave us a lesson on the hierarchy of Dubai and the importance of the buildings we were seeing. There was lots of parkland through Dubai which surprised us they must have great irrigation systems. We also stopped off at a beautiful mosque but as we were mostly all in shorts and did not had head covering with us we weren't able to enter. We then visited the Royal Palace where you can only walk to a certain distance and we could not really see much of the palace and we were conscious of the guards with the very big guns that were on duty. After this we move onto the Dubai Museum which was very interesting and well set up but of course Dubai does not have a long history so the museum was quite small. After that we traveled down to the port to hop on our Dhow to take us across to the spice and gold souks. This was a fascinating stop I don't think I have ever seen so many spices in the one spot I would have loved to dip my hands in and bring them up for a good sniff. Then we traveled onto the gold souks where you can see every carat of gold in every form imaginable. I love gold but this was very over indulgent. I tried to find a Pandora item for a remembrance of the trip but there was so much ringing around to one place or another and time was running short that I had to give up on this effort.
