The manager at our hotel in Evora suggested we take a drive out here and it was probably one of the best recommendations we had for the whole trip. We arrived at this beautiful castle that was in excellent condition and had views for as far as you could see. We parked and entered the castle on foot and walked along the lovely streets until we found a coffee shop. We stopped for a coffee and sat outside looking across the views to the River Targus. We walked on after coffee and came to a lovely little ceramics shop and had a look around and then walked on to a gallery owned by a lady originally from the UK, we had a short chat to her and then moved on. We came to a Museum and went to enter and a lady met us at the door to say it was closed for the day because there was a TV crew at the town for the day to make promotional material. Robb and I had commented there weren't many people there for such a gorgeous castle so maybe the advertising will make a difference. We walked on and came to a winery and walked in here but there was only one person on duty and she was busy so we walked on to the arena to have a look around. The arena is also in excellent condition, there has been damage over the years but most of it is still holding up. We then returned to the winery and tried a couple of the wines before walking upstairs to the wine garden and sitting and having a glass of wine each. Our views were over the River Targus with it's many little islands, the sun was up, the wine was good, it was a perfect setting for the day.
