Château des Baux de Provence - Provence France

We came across this accidentally like lots of other great places we found while travelling overseas. We took a drive through Provence and saw the signs to the Chateau so headed in that direction. We kept climbing and climbing with views to magnificent rock formations that were definitely photo worthy and finally in the distance we saw this magnificent town. We found the parking and then walked up the many steep steps to the chateau. There is so much to see here starting with the spectacular views over the valley and farms below, there are many displays of weapons used in the time the chateau would have been relevant and there are boards with drawings of the weapons and descriptions of their uses. As you walk through the ruins you find boards with pictures of how the town looked originally with descriptions of town life at that time. When you have walked through this historic site you come to a better preserved part of town with restaurants and shops that have something for everyone. An unexpected pleasure for us to find this historic town but definitely somewhere to return to.
