Les Alyscamps in Arles is a large Roman ancient cemetery on the outskirts of town. We visited Les Alyscamps because we generally love a good cemetery for it's historical value and felt this one would have a lot to offer. We were a bit disappointed because we felt the cemetery to be a bit barren and then later reading the information on the history of the cemetery we found a lot of the better sarcophagi had been removed and placed somewhere else to preserve them, probably not a bad decision but the historical value of any item is usually in it's immediate position. However it was a beautiful calm area that we enjoyed walking through and if you are immersing yourself in the ancient history of Arles then you next to take the time to visit here.
