We drove to Magnac Laval today because there is a market in the square and we had heard there is usually a fishmonger here. We didn't have much luck with that but we did come across Les Escargots de Marco who had an impressive range of cooked snails on offer, however, we had much more fun watching the uncooked snails escaping from the aquarium. After the market we visited the Information Centre and noticed they had a map for a walking tour of Magnac Laval so we thought we would do the tour. It took us about one and a half hours to complete the tour and it was well worth the effort to see the historic buildings and the beautiful church. On completion we stopped for lunch at L'Escapade where the food was very basic but enjoyable. Our friend had the three course special which was reasonably priced and quite a substantial meal of quiche, veal on rice and tiramisu, his wife had spaghetti bolognese and Robb and I had steak with garlic butter. We sat in the square over the road from the cafe which was very pleasant as it was a nice day, all our meals were good and the beer was nice and cold on this very hot day. Friendly staff, great ambiance and good prices, you can't get much better than that. We visited Magnac Laval a few times while staying in Dompierre les Eglises because it was the main shopping centre in the area and there were a couple of good coffee stops here, great memories.
