I hadn't heard of this town or the story behind it but ours friends we were travelling with suggested we pay it a visit. So glad we did this was definitely one of the highlights of our visit to the Haute-Vienne area of France. The old town is the result of a massacre by the Germans on 10 June 1944 with 642 people including women and children killed on the day and the town has been left as it was after this event as a reminder of this horrible tragedy. There is also a museum on site with lots of old photos and information that has been thoughtfully set up. It is hard not to be moved by this wonderful memorial.
