Today we visited one of our small neighbouring towns, Mirboo North, for their annual Italian Fest. We are lucky enough to have many good annual festivals in our local area and greater Gippsland district but for us this is one of our favourites and today didn't disappoint. For a start the park the festival is held in is perfect for these events and easy to access as you drive through Mirboo North, parking is well organised and there are shuttle buses for those that need to park a bit further away. There was a good range of retailers offering their wares and food trucks selling everything from chips to paella. We purchased a cone of calamari while walking around and then a ciabatta to take home to have with soup for dinner. On offer were pizzas, hamburgers, donuts, paella, coffee, tiramisu, calzones, pasta, seafood, chips and lots of other choices including wine tastings, far too many to mention. There were also stalls selling clothes, gorgeous chopping boards, plants, honey, candles, sauces and pestos, and a stall selling chili products, I love chili and add it to so many recipes to add a bit of bite, so I was drawn to this stall but note to self when you read a sign that says this is the hottest chili on earth (Carolina Reaper) and you think it is a good idea to try it, don't. The festival is well organised with extra equipment in the children's play area and extra toilets brought in to cope with the large number of visitors. Hopefully this festival continues for a number of years and if you haven't visited yet put it into your reminders for next year.
