We had a spare afternoon in Parma and one of our favourite activities any where we go is to just wander around unknown areas to see what special little gems we come across. This was definitely a little gem, we passed an official looking entrance and the huge ornate iron gate was open so we wandered over the road and peeked inside. We are not usually this cheeky but there wasn't anyone around and we could see some beautiful gardens so we walked in further. We found out later this was the Museo di Storia Naturale Sede Didattica (translated above) and the gardens were very extensive and very impressive and before we knew it we were walking the paths between each section and when we returned to the gate there was someone there to meet us. I thought we might be thrown out but we were invited inside to have a look around the museum. The director was the only one who spoke English so they called her down and she explained to us that this was a teaching museum belonging in some way to the universities of the area, we apologised for intruding but she said she was pleased that we were interested enough to drop in and gave us free reign of the museum, the hothouses and the gardens. So we spent quite a bit of time here wandering inside and out and it is one of our great memories of our trip. When we were finished here we went back to wandering the streets of Parma and came across this beautiful little delicatessen that it a terrific example of the delicatessens of Italy.
