We visited Assisi on the way home from Siena, the town of Assisi stands on a hill, as most of these walled towns did and overlooks the entry road so the first sight is really spectacular. I really wanted to find the cathedral dedicated to St. Francis but unfortunately Assisi was much bigger than we thought and we had come in at the wrong entrance. So we wandered the town which is in really good repair with some lovely shops and lane ways. We stopped and had a coffee at one of the cafes and then as we were close to it, we visited the Cathedral of San Rufino. The outside of this cathedral is impressive but rather plain, however, the inside is really quite beautiful. It didn't take long to have a good look around and there are some historically interesting areas to look through. This cathedral is also chock full of religious artifacts and some of the paintings are quite stunning.
