We left Broken Hill and had decided to return home through South Australia so our first stop was to be Peterborough because it had been recommended to us. Peterborough is not on the road home you need to take a diversion for about 30kms to reach this very interesting town. In it's heyday Peterborough was the hub of the railway system, this was back when steam engines ruled and it had
grown over the years because of it's importance as a railway hub. There are four entrances to Peterborough and each one has a town sign which includes a different model train engine as part of the monument to signify the importance of steam engines to this, what is now since the demise of steam engines, a town that heavily relies on tourism.
