This is the hotel made famous by 'Priscilla Queen of the Desert' but it has also been used in other Australian movies. We pulled up outside the hotel just before 12.00 noon thinking it would have been opened at 10.00am but it was still closed. We were going to go for lunch and then come back but I thought I would grab a quick photo through the front window, which I did. As we were walking back to the car a lovely young lady came out and invited us in to take more photos and she gave us full run of the establishment. Of course we took advantage because when you enter the hotel it is difficult to know where to look first. Every inch of wall and ceiling space has a mural on it depicting Broken Hill, Priscilla or other memorable moments or movies in Broken Hill, mind boggling really. We wandered upstairs and we were impressed with the beauty of the architecture of the building itself and the murals really suit the building, we wandered out onto the balcony and overlooked Argent Street and the slag heap at the back of the town. We wandered for awhile and then went downstairs to the bar and ordered a beer of which there is a good selection and sat at the front window and watched the activity on Argent Street as we enjoyed our drinks. The staff were friendly and glad to answer our questions about the hotel and went out of their way to oblige us. There are so many not to be missed attractions in Broken Hill but this would have to be at the top of the list.
