Last time we were in Broken Hill we had run out of time so we didn't get to see the Big Picture so this was on our list for this visit. The Big Picture is part of the Silver City Mint and Art Centre and it is also a chocolate factory. This is a good sized complex that has about five rooms and each room has a specific purpose. There is a jewellery
store and souvenir shop at the entry of the building and further back there is an art gallery, well worth looking at and on the other side is where you will find the chocolates. At the back of the building is 'The Big Picture' and to access this you walk through a man made mine onto an observation deck where you view this artwork. It is certainly impressive and huge and you have to appreciate the work gone into the picture which depicts 5-7 areas around Broken Hill. The floor in front of the picture has been set up with flora and fauna relevant to each area. The picture measures 100mts long and at it's highest point 12mts high and as I said above it is well worth a look. The only negative I am going to mention is that I think the entry cost is a bit high for what you get. We spent 15 minutes here and once you look and appreciate the painting there isn't anything else to do. Photos are not permitted which I can understand for individual artworks but I could not understand for this display.
