We took a day trip to visit lake Menindee but we didn't really have great directions where to find the lake so we drove into Menindee and then tried to sort it out from there. On the way we had stopped at a good viewing spot for the Darling River and looked over plains that we are sure at one time would have been flooded with water but now completely dry. After reaching Menindee we drove back towards Broken Hill and stopped off on the way at Kinchega National Park but we didn't go far into here because the signage didn't adequately explain how far we would be driving to each spot we wanted to view. When we left here we drove onto Copi Hollow where there is a great looking caravan park on the edge of the lake, it would be a good place to stay if you are heading up that way. Back on the road and we noticed a turn off to Sunset Strip which intrigued us so we drove in here to have a look around. There are lots of holiday homes here and nearly everyone one of them has a boat and they are spread around what would once have been part of Lake Menindee but is now completely dried up. It just seems a very sad area and we believe there is an ongoing battle about water rights so you can only hope that the best decision is made in this respect.
