If you visit Broken Hill then you have to drive on to Silverton to have a look around. Silverton is rather unique and you won't be sorry you took the time to visit. Silverton has been the setting for a few Australian movies including Mad Max, when you go there you can see why it has been used so much because it is such a great example of the Australian Outback, while you are there make sure you visit the Mad Max Museum. Even though there are only a few buildings left Silverton has had a very interesting history and when it was in it's heyday it had a population of 3,000 people, it is worth a visit to the old Gaol which is now a museum and is a great display of the past history. Make sure you visit the pub and have a meal, the food is good, the pub is interesting and the service is fantastic. We particularly loved the donkeys that wander the streets and poke their heads into visitors cars hoping to be fed something, however, there is food laid out around the town for them daily. Last time we visited there were three donkeys but a couple of months ago one of them, 'Dollar' died. Siverton is a great Australian experience.
