We were contacted last week to see if we wanted to join our friends at a table at the bowling club on Melbourne Cup Day and it sounded like fun so I said yes. Unfortunately I forgot all about it and then Robb mentioned to me that I had committed to something on the day but it still didn't mean anything to me until I received a text on the day to say we needed to be there at 12.30pm. So then it was a big rush around to finish off the few jobs I wanted to do and then find something in my depleted wardrobe to wear. So I threw something together and also sorted something for Robb to wear, we didn't scrub up too bad and then we were on our way. By the time we arrived everyone was there so we found our table and joined in with the festivities. We had a bet before lunch and a couple of drinks and lunch was served as a buffet and consisted of chicken and a great range of salads, later the salads were cleared and the desserts came out, all the food had been prepared by the ladies at the club and as always they did a great job. We took part in a couple of sweeps and placed a few bets through the day. Even though I was sitting at table 4, my lucky number, I wasn't too successful on the day. We had a fashions on the fields parade and lots of people had gone to a lot of trouble to dress and looked fabulous. All over it was a great day and we were glad we made the effort to attend.
