RAAF Base Darwin - Exercise Pitch Black 2018

We just lucked out with regards to this event, we had no idea it was on and just turned up in Darwin to stay the week and as we booked into our Caravan Park we were told that this exercise was happening at the moment and we would hear the flyovers for most of the day. Rather than being discouraged we were thrilled I had never seen the F18s in action so I thought this was a great opportunity. Our caravan park was right under the flight path so around 8.00am they would commence and we would all step outside out vans and look up to the sky to see these impressive aircraft fly over. They would start coming back from about 4.00pm so we would all watch them come back too. Coming home the

y were often in formation and they would break away in pairs to land. I still get goosebumps thinking about it and the noise is amazing. We visited the RAAF open day on our last day in Darwin and we were impressed by the number of aircraft on display the armed personnel were very friendly and helpful and it was well set up. We had a great morning at this event.
