We were after a bit of down time so decided to spend a couple of nights in Camooweal. There is not a lot to see here but we did take a trip to the Drovers Camp and we were pleasantly surprised. This facility is run by volunteers and is a credit to them, they are obviously passionate about keeping this reminder of this important period in Australian history alive and relevant. It was going to be a quick walk around but we were met at the door by one of the volunteers who acted as our guide and he had a wealth of information to share with us and the information and displays were very interesting. So what was going to be a quick visit turned into a couple of very enjoyable hours. The shed doesn't look like much from the outside but if you let that put you off you will be missing a real gem. Being a drover back then would have been a very hard life, the living conditions were sparse and all their equipment was crude and nothing was wasted. I picked up a saddle that had been set up as it would have needed to be back then carrying everything they required and I could hardly move it, bad enough on a horse but they often had to carry them themselves.
