We drove from Mt. Isa to Camooweal where we decided to stay a couple of nights, not that there was too much to do in Camooweal but we were after a bit of down time. We booked the caravan park behind the hotel, nothing special but we could spread out and the hotel served breakfast, lunch and dinner if we wanted to eat out. We did view a beautiful sunset from our site and because I am a bit partial to sunsets I was happy. Camooweal consists of an historic General Store, a really good roadhouse where you can buy just about anything you need, a post office and of course the pub we were staying behind. Their main tourist attraction is the Drover's Camp which I will talk about later but to us the hidden treasure is a free campsite down by a beautiful billabong just outside of town. We didn't find this until our last day and we had already paid for where we were so we drove down to the billabong and had a picnic lunch which was very pleasant. We will remember this spot for next time we come back. Camooweal is the last town before you cross the border and I felt it was well worth the stop.
