Kuranda Village

We caught the Skyrail up to the gorgeous village of Kuranda and followed the leafy path leading up to the main street. We planned to take the 3.00pm train back to Freshwater Station and then onto Cairns so we had quite a bit of time to just wander this spectacular area. We walked into every shop to see what they were offering and there was a nice little mix of high quality items, cheap souvenirs and a variety of food outlets. Walking around a couple of the souvenir shops and I was struck with the impression that a lot of these items had been for sale in souvenir shops on the Gold Coast in the 1960's, I don't mean this is a bad way because it brought back lots of good memories to me and I appreciated the nostalgia connected to the items. We were particularly intrigued with the mango shop selling everything mango, wines, sauces etc. and there was a great lolly shop making their own produce on the spot and there was an interesting mixture of cafes and coffee shops. My personal favourites were the high end jewellery shop which had some beautiful items on display and the leather shop with the beautiful crocodile leather bags. We stopped for lunch at the Kuranda Hotel before continuing onto the train station for our return trip.
