The Crystal Caves - Atherton - Atherton Tablelands

This attraction was highly recommended to us by the Information Centre in Cairns so we added it to our visit list on our tour of the Atherton Tablelands. I wasn't expecting it to be a shop front in the middle of town, I thought it might be an out of town attraction where the main feature might be the caves and crystals rather than the jewelry for sale. Having said that I was pleasantly surprised when we entered the store with the huge amount of jewelry on display. There was a small sign on the counter with the costs for the tour but it didn't really explain much. We decided not to do the tour because it would have cost us $50 to both go through the caves and we had no idea what they would be like. However reading later impressions from people I tend to think it might have been worthwhile. I particularly enjoyed looking around the display cases of jewelry and would much prefer to buy something than pay for the tour. I don't know much about crystals but it was interesting reading the descriptions that were displayed on each case of the very many different stones. The settings on the jewelry were beautiful, not sure if it is an in house jeweler or not but they were quite attractive. There is a rock breaking machine that children can have a go at and we stayed to watch a couple of children breaking the stones (not sure of the correct name) and the excitement from looking inside and seeing the crystals was great and they took the crystals home. I thought this to be a lovely gesture. Overall I would recommend a visit here but I still feel the tour cost is too high.
