Paronella Park

Paronella Park is 120kms south of Cairns and we visited here because it had been recommended to us by friends and also on caravanning sites that I follow. We paid to enter and it was suggested that we take the tour which was just about to start so we walked through and sat on the deck waiting for the tour to commence. The tour was a good idea, there is such a lovely romantic story behind the building and development of this picturesque area. The building is now only a shell of the original which would be classed as a castle when first built, we walked through the ruins and stood in the ballroom

and with the help of the guide we were able to reconstruct the building to imagine it in all it's glory. The garden and surrounds had also been beautifully planned and set out and there is also a magnificent waterfall which was used to drive the hydro-electric scheme on the property. The property has been devastated over the years by floods and storms and the remaining structure is being held up with struts and supports. I am glad I have visited because I would have been sorry not to have seen it but I tend to think if you are interested in visiting you do it sooner rather than later, it is so fragile that it will only take another flood or storm to carry it away.
