Tourist Information

We live in a magnificent country and we travel around our local area, wider Victoria and interstate and always find little gems we weren't previously aware of. This particularly applies to areas within 2 hours of where we live. It is common when we think of taking a holiday of looking to travelling somewhere and we often aren't aware of the beautiful spots close by. We try to go out one day a week to somewhere in our local area and we are always on the lookout for a tourist information centre to make enquiries on local beauty spots. However, we frequently find that tourist information offices have heaps of information on capitol cities and major regional areas but never on their immediate area. I have discussed this with staff at the various centres and their reasoning is that they are mostly volunteer organisations and just don't have the money to spend on brochures. I think this outlook is a bit short sighted as an excuse and it is probably time that Tourism Victorian stepped in to work with local organisations.
